The TowerCares Foundation is excited to host the 2023 Tower Classic Golf Tournament! We are back at the beautiful Renditions Golf Course in Davidsonville, Maryland, and are looking forward to a fun day of golf on a scenic 18-hole course. Enjoy good food and camaraderie, raffles, prizes, contests and more—all for a great cause: to benefit the TowerCares Foundation and the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.
We do it for the children. Children like Emme.
Emme was born healthy, at 8.5 pounds. Shortly after her first birthday, when she was learning to walk, her parents Matthew and Laura noticed that she never took more than a few steps at a time. Months went by, and eventually Emme stopped trying to walk entirely and resorted to scooting.
Around the same time, her parents noticed tremors in her hands and legs. Emme’s pediatrician ordered an MRI and directed them to a pediatric neurologist at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. The MRI revealed a large tumor on her cerebellum, which had likely been there since she was born, possibly even when Laura was pregnant. Doctors admitted Emme that same day for emergency surgery to remove the tumor.
After a week recovering at the Children’s Center, Emme was able to go home; however a day later she spiked a fever and was back at the Center. She was diagnosed with meningitis and was so sick she wasn’t allowed to leave her hospital room, although she did eventually respond to antibiotics.
Once home a week later, Emme had to learn how to perform basic functions again – to sit up, move, talk and walk.
Today, Emme is a happy, strong-willed 2.5–year-old. Although her tumor was benign, she was left with some long-term side effects. She is a little behind developmentally, and has weakness on her left side. She wears a brace on her left leg and is doing therapy to increase her strength.
We need your support
Tournament and hole sponsorships are available. We also welcome donations of gift certificates and other items for the tournament raffles and contests. Sponsors and donors will be recognized at the event, in the players’ program, in post-event publicity and on the TowerCares website. These donations help increase participation in the tournament, and the sponsorships and raffles are a critical part of our fundraising efforts.
Payments and donations will still be accepted at the tournament; however, we strongly encourage that all payments—registration, sponsorships, raffle tickets, mulligans etc.—be made in advance online or by mailed check.
On behalf of the TowerCares Foundation, thank you for your support!
