2021 Tower Classic Golf Tournament Raises Over $26,000 for the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center
The annual golf tournament, hosted by the TowerCares Foundation, raises funds for critically ill children receiving care at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Baltimore’s local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
[Laurel, MD] – Before birth, Daniel was diagnosed with posterior urethral valves and underwent two surgeries in utero at the Johns Hopkins Children Center (JHCC) in Baltimore, Md. in an attempt to save his bladder and kidneys. He required another surgery the day he was born. In his first few years of life, Daniel was diagnosed with stage 3 chronic kidney disease and required multiple surgeries. By kindergarten, Daniel needed a new kidney—fortunately his dad was a match—and he received a kidney transplant.
Today, Daniel is an active and healthy 10-year old boy who enjoys playing goalie for his local ice hockey team and is a Children’s Miracle Network Child Ambassador.
Proceeds from the August 27 Tower Classic Golf Tournament, hosted by the TowerCares Foundation, help provide critical resources for children like Daniel receiving care at JHCC, Baltimore’s local Children’s Miracle Network hospital. Over 85 golfers participated in this year’s tournament, held at Renditions Golf Club in Davidsonville, Md. The event raised over $26,000 for the Children’s Center.
“The success of the Tower Classic would not be possible without the generosity of the golfers, tournament sponsors, vendors and volunteers,” said Rick Stafford, President of the TowerCares Foundation. “Everyone at the tournament was in the spirit of giving and supporting the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for the critical work that they do to help children in need—an important part of the TowerCares mission.”
Event proceeds from players, sponsors and donors totaled $16,330. Tower Federal Credit Union and Jersey Mike’s Subs were major tournament sponsors. CO-OP Financial Services contributed an additional $10,000 through their Miracle Match program, a philanthropic matching program that encourages credit unions to create and participate in local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ fundraisers.
This year, TowerCares has donated a total of $31,330 to JHCC through the golf tournament and other charitable giving, including a $5,000 donation to the Children’s Center in July.
“The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center team is incredibly grateful for the support of the TowerCares Foundation and funds raised through the annual Tower Classic,” said Lindsay Kahler, Associate Director of Development for JHCC. “The funds raised will help expand crucial programs and sustain our ability to ensure that no child is ever denied healthcare services in their greatest time of need. Because of TowerCares, the Children’s Center remains a place of hope, healing and compassion that will change lives and create a lasting impact for generations to come.”
