TowerCares Foundation Surpasses $1 Million in Donations, Grants and Scholarships
The TowerCares Foundation has provided over a million dollars to local charitable organizations supporting military heroes, Veterans and children in need in the Baltimore/Washington community.
[Laurel, Md.] – The TowerCares Foundation is proud to announce that it has surpassed $1 million in grants, donations and scholarships to help support military heroes, Veterans and children in need. A recent donation of $5,000 to the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center pushed the Foundation’s charitable giving past the million dollar mark.
“The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Maryland’s local Children’s Miracle Hospital, does incredible work supporting critically ill children and their families,” says Richard Stafford, President of the TowerCares Foundation. “We are proud to support the tireless work they do and the lives they save everyday with an additional donation from TowerCares. It’s our way of saying ‘thank you’ for everything they do for children in need in our community.”
Since 2015, the TowerCares Foundation has provided financial support to 66 charities, including $125,000 in college scholarships to 25 students pursuing careers in STEM-related fields.
“I am thrilled that the TowerCares Foundation has passed the $1 million mark after just five years,” says Stafford. “TowerCares has become an important part of Tower Federal Credit Union’s rich history and we are honored to be able to help so many deserving children and heroic individuals who sacrificed while protecting our freedom.”
Al Smith, Secretary of the TowerCares Foundation, credits a large part of the Foundation’s success to the enthusiasm and generosity of Tower Federal Credit Union employees. “Tower employees have been ardent supporters of TowerCares from the beginning, through fundraising, volunteerism and supporting our key donation sources.”
“To recognize their many contributions, Tower is sponsoring a contest for employees to select their favorite TowerCares charity,” Smith says. “The charity receiving the most employee votes will receive a special $10,000 donation from TowerCares. Tower employees are champions of our mission, and this contest is a fun way of celebrating the million dollar milestone while giving back to a charity that our employees care about.”
In honor of reaching this important milestone, TowerCares created a special video thanking donors and highlighting some of the Foundation’s charity partners.
Christine Wilson, Director of Advancement and Volunteer Services for the Hospice of the Chesapeake, one of the charities featured in the video, expressed her appreciation of the TowerCares Foundation’s support of their Honor Salute Program for Veterans in hospice care.
“Our partnership with TowerCares has helped us grow and expand our Honor Salute Program which brings together active or retired duty military with Veteran patients in our care, for what is oftentimes the last time these men and women are publicly thanked for their service,” she says.
