Playworks Maryland

The mission of Playworks Maryland is to improve the health and well-being of children by increasing opportunities for physical activity and safe, meaningful play. The TowerCares grant will support Playworks for Freetown Elementary in Glen Burnie, Maryland, by helping provide funds for a full-time recess coach throughout the school day. The coach will provide 30-45 minutes of physical activity and play, and engage students in the Junior Coach Leadership program to develop leadership skills through developmental sports leagues. The coaches work to make students feel physically and emotionally safe, are focused on learning, and how to apply simple conflict resolution techniques to handle disagreements.
